At Uplands Junior L.E.A.D Academy we believe that all children have a right to be included in all aspects of school life and have equal access to the school curriculum. All children have different needs at different times. As a result of this, some children will have a specific Individual Education Plan (IEP) which outlines more detailed curriculum arrangements to support learning or behavioural difficulties. Children with special educational needs are taught, as far as possible, in the classroom with their peers. There may be times when a child will be seen by an member of an outside agency (Special Needs Teacher, School Nurse/ Doctor, Educational Psychologist, Speech Therapist / Occupational Therapist / Behaviour Support Team). Children placed on the school’s Special Educational Needs register are assessed as being School Action or School Action Plus. Review meetings of children’s progress will take place throughout the year.
Other children will have particular needs due to their high level of achievement and will be placed on the school’s Gifted and Talented register.
Uplands Junior LEAD Academy's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information Report 2014 will answer any questions you may have but if you have concerns or would like more information please contact the School’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENCo), Ms Gillian martin by telephoning 0116 2538407 or calling in at the main reception to make an appointment.
